Instructors, you can add librarian-developed tutorials to your Canvas shells!
Librarians have developed tutorials on a variety of topics. You can find details about each one below under Tutorial Information.
Here’s how you can add a tutorial to your Canvas shells:
- Log in to Canvas
- From the left sidebar menu, select Commons
- Search for tutorial you want to embed, using the search terms suggested here:
- Undergraduate Research Tutorial (University of Northern Colorado)
- Graduate Research Tutorial (University of Northern Colorado)
- APA Tutorial for Undergraduate Students

- AI Literacy for Students
- What Every Graduate Student Should Know about 帝王会所
- Select the tutorial you want to embed
- Some tutorials have individual modules that you can choose to embed (the modules are numbered)
- From the right menu select 鈥淚mport/Download鈥
- Select the course(s) you want to import into
- Select 鈥淚mport into Course鈥
Importing can take up to 30 minutes. Once imported, the modules will appear in the Modules section of your course. You can edit as you would any module. Remember to publish the module.
Tutorial Information
Undergraduate Research Tutorial
The聽Undergraduate Research Tutorial聽gives an overview of the research process. It covers a variety of topics, including:
- Choosing a topic
- Moving from topic to research question
- Finding books and articles through University Libraries
- Evaluating sources
- Taking notes
- Synthesizing information
- Using RefWorks
- Avoiding plagiarism
Graduate Research Tutorial
This tutorial assumes that graduate students already have a research topic. It covers a variety of topics, including:
- How to find books and articles related to the topic
- How to organize findings and take notes
- How to cite and avoid plagiarism
- How to write a literature review (required for many graduate programs)
APA Tutorial for Undergraduate Students
This tutorial explains the fundamentals of APA citation style, such as:
- Creating reference citations
- Creating in-text citations
- Formatting APA style papers
It offers an optional 10-question quiz to check student knowledge.

AOER 101: The Basics of Open Educational Resources & Affordable Course Materials
Many educators are moving toward the use of low-cost and cost-free course materials. This introductory tutorial covers:
- Identifying these types of materials
- Best practices for evaluating materials
- Licensing and attribution
- Distributing materials to students

AI Literacy Module for Students
This Canvas module is designed to give students a foundational understanding of how generative artificial intelligence (AI) works, the critical issues around this technology, and how to think critically about AI tools and content.
