Program Overview

Are you passionate about math? Ready to inspire the next generation?

The Mathematics Education Bachelor of Science degree is built for students who are passionate about mathematics and want a rewarding career shaping how others understand and use mathematics. In this program, you’ll learn how to teach algebra, geometry, statistics and other core mathematics to students in grades 6–12 in ways that are engaging, relevant and inclusive for every learner.

You’ll graduate with a deep knowledge of mathematics and how to teach it in ways that work for every student. Along the way, you’ll gain real classroom experience through school placements and service opportunities with local schools and communities.

This program also prepares you to:

  • Lead a classroom with confidence
  • Support students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles
  • Foster students’ use of language as they engage in mathematical thinking
  • Integrate technology to enhance exploration, learning and engagement
  • Connect math to real-world ideas and applications
  • Ignite students’ curiosity in mathematics

When you finish, you’ll be ready to teach middle school or high school math in Colorado. Choose a licensure concentration and you’ll graduate fully licensed to teach in the state. The program is aligned with Colorado’s new high school math standards, which take full effect in fall 2027 — so you’ll graduate ready to teach them from day one.

The program also sets you up for graduate study in mathematics education if you want to take your career even further.

Mathematics Concentrations

Which path is right for you?

The Mathematics Education B.S. offers four options, including three licensure concentrations, so you can choose the path that fits your goals. Additionally, two pathways provide the opportunity to complete an accelerated Master’s of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Education.

All four undergraduate options prepare you to teach core mathematical concepts such as arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and geometry in engaging, relevant, and inclusive ways. You’ll build a strong foundation in mathematics and education, gain real teaching experience through school placements and collaborative projects, as well as develop the skills to lead a classroom effectively, support diverse learners, and inspire curiosity in every student.

µÛÍõ»áËù

Explore math education ideas in middle school and secondary contexts. This option gives you broad exposure to the field but does not include in-depth teacher preparation, practicum experience or licensure to teach in Colorado.

µÛÍõ»áËù

Graduate fully prepared and qualified for licensure to teach mathematics in grades 6–12 in Colorado.

Motivated students can complete both this degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in CLD Education in just five years through our .

µÛÍõ»áËù

Graduate fully prepared and qualified for licensure to teach middle school mathematics in grades 6–8 in Colorado.

Motivated students can complete both this degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in CLD Education in just five years through our .

µÛÍõ»áËù

Graduate fully prepared and qualified for licensure to teach middle school mathematics in grades 6–8, plus the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Endorsement — a valuable credential for supporting multilingual learners in grades K–12.

Why µÛÍõ»áËù?

At µÛÍõ»áËù, you're not just another student in a lecture hall. You'll learn in small classes, get real support from faculty who know you, and graduate with more hands-on classroom experience than most programs offer anywhere.
