µÛÍõ»áËù Dean Named Fellow of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship
The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) named University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business Dean, Sher Gibbs, Ph.D., a Justin G. Longenecker Fellow. Gibbs is one of four recipients this year nationwide.

Grammy-Nominated Alumna Trades Concert Set for Musical Theatre
Since graduating from µÛÍõ»áËù, Neyla Pekarek '09, has lived on a stage. For eight years she traveled across the world performing in front of massive crowds as a member of the highly successful folk-rock band, The Lumineers. Now she's entering a new stage in her career debuting the world premiere of her new musical Rattlesnake Kate at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

A Year of Generous Support
Over the past year, University of Northern Colorado alumni and friends gave generously in many ways, supporting student success with scholarships, new and upgraded facilities, state-of-the-art musical instruments, and diversity, equity and inclusion training and support. Overall, µÛÍõ»áËù received more than $8.5 million in philanthropic support with 6,386 gifts for the 2021 calendar year.

Governor Appoints New µÛÍõ»áËù Board of Trustees Member
On Dec. 21, Gov. Jared Polis announced the appointment of University of Northern Colorado alumna Annette Martinez to µÛÍõ»áËù’s Board of Trustees. Her four-year term is pending confirmation by the Colorado General Assembly.

Despite the uncertainty and changes of living with COVID-19, our university community continued to rise to the challenge in 2021, including successfully navigating a full return to in-person learning and events this past fall.

µÛÍõ»áËù 2021 Fall Commencement Ceremonies, Dec. 10-11
The University of Northern Colorado will hold its fall commencement ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11. Approximately 903 students will graduate this fall with around 554 earning a bachelor's degree and around 349 earning a master's, specialist or doctoral degree.

Bows and Blazes, µÛÍõ»áËù Music Students Tune Up Their Community as Volunteer Firefighters
Two µÛÍõ»áËù students pick up their violin bows and practice fast passages and rhythms whenever they can. But playing an instrument isn’t the only intense activity taking up their spare time. Alongside playing beautiful, eloquent and moving music, Taber Land and Katherine Muser also help battle raging fires that span hundreds of acres at a time.
